My name is Kelly Schomburg, I’m the girl with the red hair in these pictures. I was protesting at the Occupy Wall Street march yesterday when I and several other women were sprayed with mace and subsequently arrested. Many have already seen the video, which has been spreading like wildfire over twitter, Facebook, tumblr, and other video feeds, along with hundreds of other photos and videos. This is my recount of what happened.

If you happen to be a child of the 90’s and you experienced those awkward teen years around the start of the new millennium (like me) you may cite Something Corporate as one of the bands that you listened to on repeat while you spent hours chatting with your friends on AOL Instant Messenger. (Remember when AIM was the equivalent of Facebook chat today? I feel old!) If you’re a bit younger, chances are you were introduced to SoCo through Jack’s Mannequin (SoCo lead singer, Andrew McMahon’s more recent solo project.) Either way, if you’re a fan, you’re stoked that the band is back on tour! Tomorrow night, Something Corporate will visit the big apple to play the Roseland Ballroom!
“The beauty of this reunion is that we waited until we were ready. There is such a good vibe going between all of us and getting to play these songs again has been a true joy. The festival dates have been a rush, but I think we’re all fired up to get back into the clubs and theatres — where we really cut our teeth for the first time,” said McMahon in a press release for the official announcement of the tour back in May.
I’ll be amidst all of the NY SoCo fans at the Roseland Ballroom tomorrow night, cheering on the band I loved oh-so-dearly in high school!
What was your favorite band in high school? (Or if you’re still in HS, what’s your favorite band at the moment? )
