Hunter S. Thompson Didn’t Get The Job
Read over to see a letter Hunter S. Thompson sent to the Vancouver Sun asking them for a job. Please bear in mind that in ‘58, when this letter was sent, Thompson was far from being a successful writer. In fact, he was flat-out broke… which makes this covering letter all the more astonishing. Enjoy.
If you read one more thing today, click through and read this man’s letter. This is exactly why this man is my hero.
“By the time you get this letter, I’ll have gotten hold of some of the recent issues of The Sun. Unless it looks totally worthless, I’ll let my offer stand. And don’t think that my arrogance is unintentional: it’s just that I’d rather offend you now than after I started working for you.”
